The German zoologist and professor Ernst Haeckel (Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel, 1834-1919) presented the natural world in around hundred illustrations, entitled ‘Kunstformen der Natur’. He drew jellyfish and protozoans, but he also insects, mammals and plants.

These mosses are generally quite large and firm and can grow to heights of more than 50 cm.
